What Happens During the Initial Psychiatric Evaluation?

The first appointment is a thorough 60-minute session. Here's what we'll cover:

• Review of your current symptoms and concerns
• Psychiatric and medical history
• Current medications and past medication trials
• Family history relevant to mental health
• Discussion of your treatment goals and preferences
• Diagnostic assessment
• Personalized treatment plan — including medication recommendations if appropriate

Medication may be prescribed at the first visit if clinically appropriate. You are never pressured to start medication.

How Should I Prepare for My First Appointment?

• Find a private, quiet space with good internet
• Use a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or phone)
• Have a list of current medications ready (including dosages)
• Write down any questions or concerns you want to discuss
• Complete intake paperwork before the appointment
• Log in 5 minutes early to test your connection

What Happens After My First Visit?

• If medication is prescribed, it's sent electronically to your pharmacy
• A follow-up appointment is scheduled (typically 2–4 weeks after starting medication)
• Ongoing medication management visits are 15–30 minutes, every 4–8 weeks
• You can reach the office between appointments for urgent medication questions
