PTSD & Trauma Treatment via Telehealth in Oregon and Washington
What Is PTSD?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It's not a sign of weakness — it's your brain's response to an overwhelming experience. PTSD affects people from all backgrounds.
You might be experiencing:
- Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories of the event
- Avoiding places, people, or situations that remind you of what happened
- Feeling on edge, easily startled, or constantly on guard
- Difficulty sleeping, concentrating, or feeling emotionally numb
- Guilt, shame, or anger that feels disproportionate or hard to control

How Is PTSD Treated with Medication?
Medication can help manage PTSD symptoms and make it easier to engage in daily life and therapy. Common approaches include:
- SSRIs — the most commonly prescribed and FDA-approved medications for PTSD
- SNRIs — another first-line option that may help with both mood and anxiety symptoms
- Prazosin — may help reduce trauma-related nightmares
Medication is often most effective when combined with trauma-focused therapy. I can coordinate with your therapist or help you find one who specializes in trauma treatment.

- Coordination: I work with your therapist if you have one, or can help connect you with trauma-focused therapy resources
Frequently Asked Questions About PTSD Treatment
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail during the evaluation?
No. You share only what you're comfortable with. I need to understand how your symptoms are affecting your life, but you are always in control of what you disclose. We go at your pace.
Can PTSD medication help with nightmares?
Yes. Certain medications, including prazosin, have been shown to reduce trauma-related nightmares. SSRIs can also help reduce the overall intensity of PTSD symptoms including nightmares and flashbacks.
Is telehealth safe for PTSD treatment?
Yes. Many patients with PTSD actually prefer telehealth because it allows them to receive care from a safe, familiar environment. Research supports telehealth as effective for PTSD medication management.
